To the Editor:
Residents of District 21 (Newington and Ward 1 in Portsmouth) have a choice to make on March 12th between a candidate who has lived in this district for decades and one who just moved in a year ago.
The differences between Carol Bush (R) and her opponent couldn’t be starker and more significant. Carol is a Conservative who has lived in Newington for over thirty years and knows her constituency well.
Here are just two important issues for her District 21.
Carol believes that the return of “Donor Towns” would present a huge issue for the citizens of Newington and Portsmouth, and it needs to be stopped once again.
Donor Towns originated after the town of Claremont sued the state in the mid-1990’s. Since Claremont believed that they couldn’t provide the same kind of education as other well-funded, wealthier towns, they felt unequally treated. Therefore, affluent towns were forced to become “donors” to equalize the education in Claremont (and other underfunded towns).
Towns like Newington, New Castle and Portsmouth became donor towns until the legislature overturned the Claremont decision. Now it’s being pushed in the legislature again.
The presence of PFAS is another issue that will get her attention to ensure that our water supply is safe for all towns surrounding Pease.
Carol was a dependable member of the NH House in 2014-2016 and represented her constituency well.
This election is only for Ward 1 in Portsmouth and the town of Newington. Since this is a special election, it may have gone unnoticed, particularly by voters in Ward 1.
Please mark it on your calendars and let your neighbors know.
Let’s send Carol back to Concord this March 12th.
