- Did you know that the September 5, 2023 Draft New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) Ten-Year Plan features a project to evaluate potential improvements to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle?
- Did you know that the Portsmouth Traffic Circle dates back to the 1950s? Its one-lane design is antiquated when compared to more modern two-lane traffic circles like the Lee Traffic Circle, upgraded just a few years ago?
- Did you know that this 70-year old design is incapable of handling today’s traffic volume? Rush hour traffic queues up for a mile or more waiting to get through the Circle? Did you know that these lengthy traffic jams generate thousands of tons of excess carbon annually and it is unnecessary?
- Did you know the current 1950s design is not only out-of-date, but it has many safety hazards built into its design and function? Rates of Accidents, some even fatal, could be reduced or eliminated with a redesign and new construction.
- The new Sustainability Committee, just formed by City Council, should get behind this initiative in order to reduce carbon generation, save fuel consumption and improve safety.
